[news] Asylum move 'life or death', lawyer



The lawyer of refugees who achieved a court order to prevent the immediate transfer of asylum seekers in Malaysia insists that the case is a matter of life or death.

The first group of asylum seekers to be transferred to Malaysia under the swap agreement the federal government people out of Australia because of the Monday morning.

However, his departure was put on hold after David Manne, lead attorney for Refugees and Immigration Legal Centre, obtained an injunction in the High Court on Sunday.

Justice Kenneth Hayne ordered the transfer be delayed until at least 16:30 (GMT), pending the outcome of a new Superior Court hearing 14:15 (GMT).

"We're talking life or death issues ... very vulnerable," Mr Manne said the Seven Network on Monday.
