On The Fly: Red Sox Flashing Some Sizable Numbers

The numbers keep getting gaudier for the Red Sox, who done a sweep of the Mariners with a 12-8 victory Sunday at Fenway Park. Tim Wakefield, who will be 45 on Aug. two, got his 199th career win & two,000th strikeout as a member of the Red Sox. The Sox are 62-37, which makes them 60-27 since April 15. They are 16-3 in July, & they have done this with top beginning pitchers on the disabled list & with outfielder Carl Crawford either injured or underperforming for most of the season. Now Crawford is hitting .375 in 24 at-bats since coming off the DL last week, & Jon Lester will rejoin the rotation on Monday.

The Yankees, 11-9 in July, are hanging in. They beat the A's 7-5 as Mariano Rivera escaped a ninth-inning mess with a line-drive double play.
